Organizing In A Very Present Way

well-being Aug 03, 2024

Since seeing Alanis Morissette live in concert a couple weeks ago, I’ve fallen down her rabbit hole of compassion, wisdom, and insight. I’ve been reveling in her deep processing confessional style of sharing who she is and what she believes in. Her popularity no doubt comes from legions of fans nodding their heads at what she writes and sings and speaks about.

I found myself nodding at a blog post on her website titled, Top 16 Ways I Connect with God Presence.

Especially #8-Puttering.

  1. puttering.mindfulness practice with a great feng shui pay-off :). clearing clutter. organizing in a very present way. so many ideas come to me, i can feel the energy shifting and opening up all around me as i toss things, give things away, or just beautify in a simple way. i also want everywhere my eye goes to induce peace versus tightness, so i remove things that conjure any thought that lowers my energy. this does require tuning into my body and sensing how i feel in different rooms and corners. this is one of my favorite spiritual practices.

This sparked my heart because having a clean and organized space for me is crucial to having a peaceful and organized mind. Home organizing, space clearing and feng shui have been a passion of mine for decades because of how much my environment affects my mood and energy.

The energetics of a space have a big influence on a sensitive nervous system. So I know when I tidy up, I’m also stirring up stagnant energy. When I place objects in my home with intention, I’m directing that energy. I use smoke and sprays to clear and enliven the energy in my space and have an alter – or a central point of energetic focus – in my home to nurture this energy.

But it’s not always easy to maintain a tidy, high-vibe home.

How does your home feel to you? Is it just right? Or does it feel a bit out of alignment with where you want to be in life? Our home reflects who we are. What is your home currently reflecting to you?

Sometimes, it feels daunting to start the process of freshening up a space physically and energetically. Or, maybe you’re uninspired.

Let’s explore “peace versus tightness” and “removing things that conjure any thought that lowers my energy”, as Alanis says.

I’d love to hear from you. What matters most in your home? How nurturing and supportive does your physical space feel to you right now? How important is it for you to zhuzh up your space energetically? Please share in the comments, or we can dive a bit deeper with this questionnaire I created.

Assess the positive flow of energy in your home. Use these questions to reflect on your living environment and how it supports your well-being. Your responses will provide valuable insights into your satisfaction with your home setup and any desire to declutter or reorganize. I’ve got some fun ideas to share if there’s interest. We can dive into crafting a sacred space for ourselves where we can rest and recharge deeply. Your responses to this questionnaire will also help inform the direction this takes.
